ESG Policies

Carbon Footprint Reduction

We offer gold with ZERO emissions; CO2-neutral gold. This means that the assessment of our gold is already neutral and it does not need to be additional compensated. Unavoidable emissions are offset by investing in certified climate protection projects through our supplier C.HAFNER. For the extraction of one kg of fine gold, 30,000kg of CO2 are emitted in a mine; By recycling high-content material, only 50kg are emitted.

Our shipping is environmentally friendly and we use DHL GoGreen Plus Worldwide, a pioneer in green logistics. DHL GoGreen Plus uses SAF that is a biofuel that is produced from renewable sources such as vegetable oils, animal fats, waste products, and agricultural crops. SAF is specifically designed to be used as a substitute for traditional jet fuel and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil fuels. By insetting via GoGreen Plus, we can directly reduce CO2 emissions of our transportation within our own supply chain. The entire process is verified by an independent body accredited by the Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS)DHL has also set ambitious environmental targets and aims to reduce their logistics-related greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions to zero by the year 2050. DHL Group’s sustainability performance is independently evaluated by renowned ESG rating agencies and supplier platforms on an ongoing basis. For more information, please review their ESG presentation.

By using DHL Go Green plus for our shipments we also contribute to biodiversity. The DHL Group addresses biodiversity as part of its “GoGreen” environmental program, focusing on minimizing its footprint through sustainable operations and ecosystem protection. Key initiatives include joining the ‘Biodiversity in Good Company’ initiative, assessing operational impacts, piloting measures at facilities, and supporting tree-planting projects. DHL works to incorporate biodiversity protection into its global environmental program, including assessing impacts and conducting pilot measures at sites. In partnership with Greenpop, DHL Express SSA has planted thousands of trees, such as the 12,000 trees planted in Malawi to restore forests.

Responsible Supply Chain Partnerships

We work exclusively with suppliers who have clear social strategies.

Precious Metals

In Sweden, the ethical sourcing of precious metals is controlled by Swedac, who are the regulatory and supervisory authority in Sweden for precious metals.

The precious metals we use come from one of the largest, most influential Nordic distributor and are manufactured exclusively by LMBA or LPPM-certified companies in accordance with the 2017/821 Regulation (EU) laying down supply chain due diligence obligations. The gold is produced by a C02-neutral refining process through the use of the state-of-the-art technology.

We can therefore ensure that in all gold raw material, only conflict-free material is used.  LMBA is the world’s only independent authority for precious metals and they ensure the highest levels of leadership, integrity and transparency for the global precious metals industry by advancing standards and developing market solutions.

Lab grown diamonds

At Annette Welander we have made an active choice not to work with Lab grown diamonds due to our commitment to sustainability.

Trucost, part of S&P Global were commissioned in 2019 to undertake a world-first comprehensive analysis in of the total value contribution of The Diamond Producers Association (DPA) members to better understand all material socioeconomic and environmental impacts and benefits of diamond mining. One of the key findings was that the Greenhouse gas footprint per one carat of polished diamond is 160kg CO2e per carat, 69% less than the estimated carbon footprint of lab grown diamond

Natural Diamonds

At Annette Welander we only work with natural diamonds that are sustainably sourced and conflict free. Our natural diamonds are white top Wesselton VVS diamonds (E-F colour). We also work with coloured diamonds in top quality; pink and champagne to Cognac. The sourcing for our diamonds comes from our suppliers in Antwerpen and through Antwerp World Diamond Centre AWDC https://www.awdc.be/. (This means that we have full control of the origin and all diamonds are traceable.)

While maintaining the highest standards of compliance and transparency, the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) defends the interests of about 1470 Belgian Registered Diamond companies and represents them both within Belgium and on the international stage.

In Antwerp, strict regulatory frameworks, effective supervision, and progressive EU legislation ensure the highest standards of integrity. Only officially approved companies can operate as diamond businesses, and all diamonds pass through the Diamond Office—a unique, dedicated customs facility—where independent experts verify their conflict-free and ethical origins through Kimberley Process certification.

Additionally, Antwerp’s diamond companies adhere to rigorous European anti-money laundering (AML) legislation, conducting thorough customer screenings, risk assessments, and annual reporting. Companies compliance officers undergo regular training to stay aligned with evolving regulations.
